The Love of a Mother.

Yesterday, on the way to pick up Erica from gymnastics with Mum, I was watching MBLAQ’s Hello Baby on my laptop with the sound running through the car speakers.

As we stopped at a red light, Mum looked at the computer screen just in time to see little Lauren come up. Quicky, she exclaims “Wow! That little girl is absolutely gorgeous!”

Laughing as Mum began driving again, I replied “Yeah, I know right?! She’s stunning! She’s half Korean half Canadian.”

“Oh. That explains it then. All halfies are gorgeous,” Mum eplained.

Being half Chinese, half Filipino, I smiled and turned to Mum asking, “Does that mean I’m gorgeous?!”

Mum quickly gave me a look, faced the road again and replies “I mean different continents, Jaclyn.”

On their trip to City Beach, Wollongong, the Chubby Ates managed to find themselves easily amused by what is known by ‘The Story Game’. These are their stories…

Once upon a time, there was a princess of Nigeria who had a fistful of coins and loved to eat oysters with prawns. One day, the Prince…

Finally…

And for the first time in five weeks, I can finally rest.

It seems like it’s been forever since I’ve been able to sit down and not worry about something. Since the final term of 2011 began, it seems that life has been pretty full on.

As soon as we returned from the September/October holidays, my schoolwork was rushed. Our yearly exams were coming up in week four, and most of our subjects hadn’t yet covered everything that would be on them. Week one was such a rush that in the mere seven days in subjects such as science, we weren’t able to finish the topic in time.

Why the rush when we had three weeks until exams? Easy: our schedule wasn’t thought through very well. As term one begins we finish our topics, week two we’re away on camp, week three is purely a study week and week four brings us exams. So again, it was pretty full on.

Year nine camp was somewhat relaxing. Three days away from home, resting up with friends in some country town. That is, if you don’t mind not sleeping. Wow, I really didn’t realise how rowdy some of the girls in my grade could get. But at least the food was great.

After returning from camp began the stressful period of studying and preparing for exams. Luckily for me, I had started before we left for camp, but one week really isn’t long enough to study for ten subjects in year nine. I happened to learn that if you give one of your friends a copy of some study notes, at least five people will end up with them. Also, I don’t mind helping people study for exams under one condition: they ask for help a day or two before the exam. The night before or even the morning of the exam isn’t fair on me.

I just thank God that I studied for these exams because I would have been done for if I didn’t, like a lot of people in my grade.

Exams were weird this time around. They all seemed harder than expected but not so hard that I freaked out. Maybe that was just a coincidence though.

Finally, after our yearly exams had finished, the grade was celebrating. That is, everyone but fourteen of us. We still had one pretty major exam to complete: the school certificate mathematics exam. I’m pretty happy that I did it this year: I won’t get the chance next year.

The school certificate trials were extremely difficult. The fourteen year nine students sitting the exam were aiming for 85%. Only one person hit it. I was pretty disappointed with my 79%, considering that I had put so much effort in. It really scared me for the actual test. Thanks to the advice of Ate Aianne that ‘the trials are always harder than the actual thing’, I was able to get that mindset. And gosh, Ate couldn’t have been more right. The trials were like 400% harder than the actual exams. I actually finished the test and was 99.99% happy with my answers. Now we wait until December 8th to see if I just jinxed myself.

So here I am, finally able to relax. Oh wait a minute, I cant. Why? Because the Sydney 2011 KPop Music Fest is in less than three days and I’m freaking out!!

Thank God exams are over though…

KPop Zumba!

Do you know what would be cool? KPop Zumba! Wouldn’t that be awesome?! I know one guy in America has a couple KPop fitness routines and I’ve seen one Korean instructor do a few KPop songs, but wouldn’t it be cool to have a complete KPop workout?! Imagine toning your abs with Hyuna’s Bubble Pop, working out your arms with BIGBANG’s Last Farewell, shaping your thighs with Brown Eyed Girl’s Abracadabra, exercising the rest of your legs with SNSD’s Gee or even learning to body roll with Taeyang’s Wedding Dress, all the while enjoying every minute of it! You could learn all the famous dances, or the instructor could make up their own routines. It’d be so much fun! I really want to KPop Zumba now. It’d be sooooo cool!
